Em Bebbi sy Jazz

OK Em Bebbi sy Jazz

This year's "Em Bebbi sy Jazz" ("Jazz for the people of Basel") will bring the whole range of jazz, with different musicians, bands and orchestras from the region and also from the rest of Switzerland, to the three focus stages on the Rümelinsplatz, at the Schmiedenhof and on the Andreasplatz. This year the musical organisers have identified Latin as the focus theme.
On the Rümelinsplatz stage, "Jenny Chi & ChiBossa" will open the evening with Bossa Nova music. They will be followed by a 10-person group, "Tony Martinez & the Cuban Power". The finale on the Rümelinsplatz stage has been claimed by "Famara" and his band, a remarkable musician from the Basel region who has already built up a big community of fans abroad - especially in Africa - with his Afro-Jamaican rhythms.

The opening act on the Schmiedenhof stage will be "El Guajiro & Su Son", a trio that will introduce lovers of Latin music to Cuban rhythms. Then "Los Capitanes del Son" will whisk the audience away to the world of guaracha, rumba, salsa, cha-cha-cha and bolero. To finish, "El Flecha Negra" will perform: a young band from the Greater Basel region, consisting of musicians from various Latin-American countries.

On the Andreasplatz, "Latin Vibes" will open the evening. They will be followed by what has already become an insider's secret at the "Em Bebbi sy Jazz" festival over the last few years, the big "Ritmo Jazz Group", presenting their programme in classic salsa style.

This year once again, about 70,000 jazz fans are expected to throng Basel's city centre.
