Eurovision Song Contest 2025: Basel presents a brilliant accompanying programme

Media Release

Präsidialdepartement

From 10 to 17 May, Basel will be the meeting place for music fans from all over Europe. In addition to the TV shows in the St. Jakobshalle, the Host City is offering an unprecedented supporting programme throughout the city. With a varied programme of music, entertainment and public value projects, the Eurovision Song Contest can be experienced by everyone.

There is a lot to experience in Basel during Eurovision week. The programme was presented in detail for the first time at the media orientation on 17 March. It encompasses a variety of musical genres – from jazz and classical to pop – and offers a large stage for all generations, for professionals and amateurs alike. Parties, music and dancing will be just as much a part of the programme as experiences for the whole family. "The ESC is more than just a TV show for us. Basel-Stadt has therefore put together an extensive accompanying programme. Not only the ticket holders will be able to experience something very special. Even those who are not present live in the hall will be offered something unique," said President of the Government Conradin Cramer in his welcome address to the media representatives.

Eurovision Village with Conchita Wurst, Anna Rossinelli and 90ies

The Eurovision Village will take place indoors for the first time in 2025 and can accommodate around 12,000 visitors. Hall 1 at Messe Basel will be open daily from 12 noon and comprises three central areas: a sponsor zone with interactive experiences, a catering area with a small stage and the large party area with the main stage.

The stage programme is top-class: Former Swiss ESC acts such as Remo Forrer (2023), Luca Hänni (2019), Timebelle (2017), Sinplus (2012) and Anna Rossinelli (2011) will be performing alongside international stars, including Conchita Wurst (ESC winner for Austria in 2014) and 90s icons such as Rednex and SNAP!. Numerous current ESC delegations are also expected. The programme is complemented by ABBA Gold - The Concert Show, local choirs, music groups and DJs.

Tanja Dankner, Odette Hella'Grand and Joël von Mutzenbecher, who are all looking forward to their role as presenters, will host the programme in the Eurovision Village. Tanja Dankner emphasises: "The ESC has inspired me since my childhood – being able to help shape it in Basel is something very special." Odette Hella'Grand is honoured to be there: "The ESC stands for colour, freedom and diversity – that's exactly what I live for. It is an absolute honour for me to help shape the Village as a presenter." Joël von Mutzenbecher can hardly hide his enthusiasm either: "As an ESC fan since my earliest childhood, there were only two options for me: compete in the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland myself or hope that it would take place in my home town of Basel at some point and then present in the ESC Village. The fact that it has now become the second is probably better for everyone involved. I'm really looking forward to this special challenge and couldn't be happier with the choice of our hosting trio!"

EuroClub and café with Emmelie de Forest, Cesár Sampson, Jerry Heil and various DJs

The EuroClub is the party hotspot of the ESC in Basel and is located directly opposite the Eurovision Village. From 10 to 17 May, there will be parties here every day from 11 pm until the early hours of the morning. ESC fans, music enthusiasts and delegations come together to experience the unique Eurovision feeling.

On the opening Saturday, 10 May, there will be a brilliant opening party with Swiss DJs. The audience will be able to enjoy a diverse mix of music, from open format to mash-up and electronic sounds. The entire weekly programme is exceptional: Former national and international ESC acts, such as Emmelie de Forest (ESC 2013 winner for Denmark), Cesár Sampson (ESC 2018 for Austria) and Jerry Heil (ESC 2024 for Ukraine), will give visitors the chance to feel the real ESC vibes up close. In addition, numerous current ESC delegations are expected and various DJs will complement the music programme with a colourful mix of "ESC hits".

Directly in front of the EuroClub, the EuroCafé invites you to a relaxed start to the evening from 4 pm. With coffee, drinks and snacks, it offers a relaxed atmosphere for fans, locals and delegations. The EuroClub is organised in cooperation with the ESC fan clubs and the MCH Group and offers space for around 3,000 people. The fan clubs had the right to pre-buy a certain number of tickets, and public ticket sales will start on 18 March 2025 at 12:00 noon at www.mqbasel.ch/euroclub-tickets

Eurovision Square: Music festival in the open air

From 10 to 17 May, Barfüsserplatz will become Eurovision Square, an open-air festival in the heart of the city. Each day has its own musical theme, including, for example:

  • Jazz Day: Co-operation with "Em Bebby sy Jazz", the traditional jazz festival in Basel
  • Classical & Crossover Day: among others, the Basel Symphony Orchestra presents classical and cross-genre sounds
  • Hip-Hop Day: Stage for rap, urban beats and break dance
  • Eurovision Day: A day full of ESC hits and surprises

In addition to Swiss dialect songs, French, English and German songs can also be heard. Surprising highlights from the Black Forest are presented in co-operation with the Stimmen Festival and the Burghof Lörrach.

A celebration for everyone: diverse public value appearances

In addition to international stars, numerous local and inclusive music projects will also take centre stage at ESC 2025 in Basel. A varied public value programme brings musicians from the region to the stages of the Eurovision Village, Eurovision Square and Eurovision Boulevard.

Performers in the Eurovision Village include the young orchestra Juventus Musica Basel and the School of Rock. Juventus Musica Basel, consisting of around 30 musicians under the age of 30, combines classical and popular music and was founded in 2011 by conductor Raphael Ilg to offer young talents a platform. The School of Rock brings together around 50 singers from different generations – from young adults to pensioners – and focuses on the joy of singing together accompanied by a band. The Weischno Choir from Alzheimer beider Basel can also be heard – a group of 15 to 20 people who regularly make music together and show how music connects people with dementia.

Numerous public value projects also provide special moments at Eurovision Square. For example, the Superar Suisse Choir & Orchestra brings talented young musicians to the stage, while four of the region's favourite school bands compete against each other in the School Song Contest. A songwriting workshop enables pupils to present their own compositions to an audience.

The Eurovision Boulevard is all about dance. In cooperation with the Tanzfest Region Basel, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025, a platform for artistic diversity and cross-generational experiences is being created. The dance festival invites people of all ages to get moving, discover new dance styles and celebrate together.

With this programme, the ESC in Basel will become a festival for everyone far beyond the big stages – intergenerational, inclusive and full of creative encounters

Travel to the event by public transport and travel home again at any time

The easiest way to get to the ESC venues is by public transport. During the ESC week, public transport services will be significantly expanded. Ticket holders for the events in the St. Jakobshalle, the Arena plus and the EuroClub can travel free of charge within the Tarifverbund Nordwestschweiz (TNW), the Regio Verkehrsverbund Lörrach (RVL) and the Distribus area. You also benefit from a CHF 20 discount on the public transport journey.

After the shows, shuttle trains are available from Basel St. Jakob to Basel SBB railway station, where there are connections to Zurich, Bern and Lucerne as well as to neighbouring countries. On the day of the final, there will also be extra trains to Lausanne and Biel/Bienne after the end of the show. Overnight guests in Basel and the region will also have access to an extended night-time public transport service, enabling them to travel into the early hours of the morning.
