The Kaserne Basel is filled with people in the stands and on the stage. A spectacle of light plays out in the dark sky.

Event location Basel

Basel is a city rich in tradition and a top international destination for exhibitions, congresses, markets and events. In addition to its central location, this city on the Rhine offers ideal transportation connections and outstanding infrastructure as well as numerous possibilities for staging large-scale international events.

There’s always so much going on, like the Herbstmesse with its fairground rides. I love how Fasnacht takes over the city with processions, music, and political satire. Or Art Basel, when the place feels like the epicentre of the global art world. Plenty to keep you occupied – and amused!

International sporting events

When it comes to sports, Basel has a lot to offer. Tennis fans get their money’s worth at Swiss Indoors, held at the St. Jakobshalle every autumn. Year after year, this internationally renowned indoor tournament brings the best tennis players in the world to Basel. In November, the teams of the Mirabaud BaselHead rowing regatta race along the spectacular competition course on the Rhine. In mid-March, the world’s top badminton players meet here to compete in the Badminton Swiss Open. Also in the St. Jakobshalle, the world's best show jumpers compete for the Indoor Grand Prix at the Longines CHI Classics Basel in January.

In addition to these annually recurring major sporting events, Basel will host one-off international sporting highlights in 2024 and 2025:

Festivals for every taste

Among the festival-highlights of the year in Basel are the top-class Baloise Session in autumn, Jazzfestival Basel in the spring. In summer, Basel Tattoo, which is the second largest open-air tattoo in the world after the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, attracts thousands of visitors from all over Europe. Apart from these large-scale events, there is also a wealth of smaller festivals and fairs as well as concerts, theatre, ballet and opera performances.

From art fairs to amusement fairs

With over 25 trade and consumer fairs, Basel is the most important exhibition centre in Switzerland and one of the most important in Europe. Art Basel, the world's most important trade fair for modern and contemporary art and Swissbau, the most important meeting place for the construction and real estate industry in Switzerland and one of the biggest trade fairs in Europe are simply outstanding. And at the Basel Autumn Fair, Switzerland’s largest and oldest funfair, the atmosphere on the fairground in Basel city centre is unique.
