At Christmastime Basel becomes one of the most beautiful Christmas cities in Europe. The Basel Christmas market is a real gem and there isn’t another for miles around to match it. The Basel Christmas Market was declared the “Best Christmas Market 2021” by “European Best Destinations”.

Numerous market stalls set up at Barfüsserplatz and around the Barfüsser Church invite you to browse for Christmas goodies. You’ll find not only Christmas tree decorations and a wide variety of gift items but also food stands where you can enjoy all sorts of delicacies in a festive setting. A large mulled-wine pyramid invites you to enjoy a hot drink, and you can try your hand at candle dipping to make a unique Christmas gift for your loved ones.

The Christmas market at Münsterplatz has been a highlight of Basel’s Christmas season since 2011. A magnificently decorated Christmas tree awaits you in front of the stately Basel Minster. The market stalls set up beneath trees festively decorated with glowing snowballs offer a wide range of goods, food and beverages.

The Alphütte on Claraplatz invites you to linger and enjoy yourself. The Alphütte has a wide range of food and drinks, from cheese dishes to meat products and all kinds of drinks.

The “Fairytale Forest” of the Robi-Spiel-Aktionen on Münsterplatz is a highlight for children and families. In the “Fairytale Forest”, atmospherically decorated with fir trees, there are many creative activities on offer, such as tin casting, candle dipping, gingerbread decorating or forging. A Christmas story is performed in the puppet theater and culinary delights are also provided.

The registration deadline for the Basel Christmas market is on the last day of February in the same year the Basel Christmas market takes place. The official application form for the next Basel Christmas market can be downloaded from the 24th of December.
