Fairs and markets

The Division of External Affairs and Marketing of the Canton of Basel-Stadt is responsible for staging and promoting popular traditional events and markets in Basel like the Basel Autumn fair, the Basle Christmas market, the Basel city markets and the National Day celebrations on the Rhine.

Basel Markets

Stadtmarkt Marktplatz

The Service Fairs and Markets organizes three weekly markets and two flea markets. The Service issues permits for neighborhood markets on public land.

National Day on the Rhine

Fireworks at the federal celebration on the Rhine.

Basel respectively celebrates the Swiss National Day on the 31st of July with a big city festival on the Rhine.

Basel Autumn fair

Karussell auf dem Münsterplatz

The Basel Autumn fair is the largest and oldest amusement fair in Switzerland.

Basel Christmas market

Basel Christmas Market Münsterplatz

The Basel Christmas market is a real gem and there isn’t another for miles around to match it.
